How Long Can Juvederm Last Before a Maintenance Treatment?

skin resurfacing juvederm 8

One of the effects of aging is a loss of “baby fat” in your face. As fat stores diminish, your face thins, causing lines and wrinkles. Juvederm has become very popular for cosmetic use because it is excellent at correcting those signs of aging. It has even been nicknamed the “liquid facelift”. The treatment lasts longer than many of its counterparts–up to nine months–and is naturally derived. At Dundee Dermatology in West Dundee, IL we can help you understand if Juvederm will suit your aesthetic needs.

What Is Juvederm?

Juvederm treatment is a collection of injectable fillers used to reverse signs of aging. There are four types of dermal fillers available in the line. The various filler options in the collection target a variety of aesthetic concerns of the face including those affecting the:

  • Cheeks
  • Lines around the mouth
  • Lips

Rather than using a toxin, the treatment uses a substance that naturally occurs in your body to achieve its results. The main ingredient in the injectable is hyaluronic acid. It mimics your body’s natural processes to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It is also able to restore youthful fullness to your face.

Is Juvederm Permanent or Dissolvable?

It is understandable to want permanent results from a dermal filler. However permanent fillers are not always the best option. If, after treatment, you wanted to achieve a different result, try a different treatment, or have an invasive procedure, a permanent filler could complicate or limit your options.

Fortunately, while Juvederm treatment is very long-lasting, it is not a permanent dermal filler. The filler is broken down naturally by your body over time. It can also be dissolved in our office with a simple administration of hyaluronidase. In essence, it offers the long-lasting effects of a more permanent filler without the irreversible commitment.

How Often Will I Need Maintenance Treatments?

Since the hyaluronic acid contained in the filler is broken down by each person’s body at a different rate, the number of months your results will last will vary. The longevity of your individual results is tied to a number of factors such as:

  • The location treated
  • The skill of your doctor
  • The rate your body is able to metabolize the injectable

That said, on average, results can last from nine months to a year.

How Soon Will I See Results?

If you are looking for results that will translate immediately, you will love this treatment. Your initial results can be seen as soon as we administer the injectable. Even better, with time the products settle into your skin. That means over the weeks that follow your results will continue to improve.

For the best results, we advise our clients to return for a follow up two to three weeks following initial treatment. At your follow up appointment, we can check your results and see if you would like any further refinements. Thereafter, enjoy nearly a year’s worth of a restored youthful aesthetic!

Can I Benefit From the Treatment?

This treatment is ideal for individuals who would like to temporarily control and reverse aesthetic conditions caused by aging such as:

  • Lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Recessed scars
  • Thin lips
  • Loss of fullness of the face and cheeks

That said, there are some people who may not be able to benefit from the treatment. If any of the following are true of you, please schedule a consultation so we may help you navigate the best treatment options available to you:

  • Proneness to hypertrophic scarring or keloid formations
  • You are taking blood-thinning medications
  • You are a smoker

The best candidates will be those in relatively good physical health. Also, you should have realistic goals as to what the treatment will be able to accomplish. Although it is touted as a “liquid facelift,” and its results are exceptional, it cannot achieve results equal to surgery. However, the best way to determine if this dermal filler is ideal for you is to consult with one of our experts.

Consider Treatment

Juvederm treatment is a hyaluronic acid-based collection of dermal fillers. It provides exceptional results and can be used for a variety of facial aging concerns. If you are looking for a dermal filler with long-lasting results, this treatment is ideal. It has a nine-month to a one-year lifetime.

A major benefit of hyaluronic acid is it is a substance that naturally occurs in your skin and mimics the innate processes that create a youthful appearance. Your body is able to easily absorb it, making it ideal for people who lean toward more organic cosmetic treatments. Results are immediate and improve with time, without the need for downtime after treatment.
