Yes, all EXION treatments require a consultation so that we can make sure you’re a good candidate for EXION and to determine which applicator to use for your treatment. During this consultation, our team of experts will sit down with you and discuss your goals. We can also examine your skin concerns for ourselves to make a more informed recommendation. After the consultation is complete, we can give you advice on how to best prepare for your treatment, or if you’re ready, we can get started on your treatment immediately.

The EXION Face applicator improves facial skin laxity by stimulating the production of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin. Collagen and elastin are 2 naturally occurring proteins that provide the skin with structure. So when we force the body to produce more collagen and elastin in the treatment area, we aren’t just making skin more elastic—we’re rejuvenating and strengthening it, too.

Downtime may vary but is minimal for all EXION treatments. Some EXION treatments require no downtime at all. Following your treatment, our team members will provide detailed instructions on how to best take care of your skin. We provide you with quality care, even after the treatment is complete. EXION is safe and effective for use on all skin tones. It can also be a great alternative to more invasive treatments that may not be as suitable for some skin tones. At Dundee Dermatology, we prefer treatments that can address a wide variety of concerns for a wide variety of patients.

You may experience some minor side effects following your treatment, but these vary depending on the chosen EXION treatment. Some patients experience redness in the treatment area, whereas others experience swelling and tenderness. You can use an ice pack to reduce the severity of these side effects (but be careful not to place it directly on the skin). Any side effects you do experience should be brief.

Some EXION treatments use a popular method called microneedling combined with radiofrequency (RF) energy to improve texture and tone for firmer, tighter skin. During this process, a member of our team uses a special handheld treatment applicator tipped with several small needles. The applicator creates tiny injuries in the skin. At first, this process may seem counterintuitive. After all, if we’re trying to repair the skin, then why would we intentionally inflict it injuries (even if they are microinjuries)?

By disturbing the surface of the skin, we provoke the body’s natural healing response in a controlled manner. The body floods the treatment area with collagen and elastin proteins, which work in tandem to rejuvenate the skin’s appearance and provide it with new structure.

Everyone’s needs are different, but yes, you will likely need multiple EXION sessions to see the results you’re looking for. For the most noticeable skin improvements, we traditionally recommend at least 3 initial sessions. Our providers can monitor your progress and recommend additional appointments as needed.
