How Quickly Does Juvederm Start Working?

How Quickly Does Juvederm Start Working 638163075061475229

When a person grows older, their body slows down collagen production. Over time, fine lines and wrinkles form. If you’re worried about the first signs of aging, dermal fillers could be perfect for you. These injectables restore the lost volume in your face and smooth out your skin. At Dundee Dermatology in West Dundee, IL, we offer several types of JUVÉDERM fillers.

How Quickly Does JUVÉDERM Start Working?

After your injections, your face immediately looks different. You might notice that your features are plumper than before and that you no longer suffer from sagging skin or hollow cheeks. However, these initial changes aren’t the final result. They are simply the result of the injections. In the days after the treatment, the active ingredient, called hyaluronic acid, settles under your skin and starts attracting moisture.

You can see the final results after ten to fourteen days. If you’re happy with the way your face looks, you don’t have to do anything more. However, you can return to the clinic if you’d like further corrections or if you’d like to rejuvenate another area of your face. Because hyaluronic acid is safe, you can get treated multiple times within one month.

How Long Do the Results Last?

One of the reasons why dermal fillers are so popular is that they last much longer than other cosmetic treatments. The standard gel breaks down after six to twelve months, so patients need to come to the clinic once or twice a year. However, some of the newer fillers last even longer because the molecules are cross-linked and harder for the body to absorb. These fillers produce excellent results for twelve to eighteen months at a time.

At the clinic, we sometimes use a particularly long-lasting gel called VOLUMA. This formula is thicker than the others, so it’s ideal for patients who have lost a lot of volume in the mid-face or chin area. VOLUMA breaks down very slowly, and the results often last for two years.

Keeping Your Results Fresh

Not everyone experiences the same results after a dermal filler session. Some people have a higher metabolism than others, so their bodies break down hyaluronic acid more quickly. The results are also dependent on the patient’s lifestyle. People who eat healthily, avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, and drink plenty of water, almost always experience better results than those who lead an unhealthy lifestyle.

To get the most out of your treatment, follow all our instructions. We might recommend skincare products that suit your skin type and complexion. Use these regularly to prevent premature aging and skin discoloration. Always wear sunscreen when going out, and stay in the shade to prevent damage from UV rays.

What Is the Appointment Like?

Your dermal filler appointment only takes a few minutes. Arrive early, so we can apply the numbing cream to your treatment area. It takes several minutes for this to sink in, and we can’t start the treatment until your skin is numb. The injections take about ten to twenty minutes. Once they’re over, you can wash your face and leave right away.

What Should I Do Before the Session?

You don’t have to do much to prepare, but it’s best to schedule other medical or cosmetic treatments two weeks before or after your dermal filler appointment. Stop taking blood-thinning drugs and supplements a few days before the session. On the day, don’t apply any make-up or skincare products to the injection site.

What Should I Do After the Session?

After your appointment, you can resume almost all your normal activities. Avoid heating up your skin too much. Stick to low or medium-intensity workouts for a few days, and don’t visit the sauna or use a hot tub. You can take Tylenol, but you have to avoid blood-thinning medication like NSAIDs for at least a week after your treatment. If you want to speed up the recovery process, you can drink pineapple juice or take Arnica Montana.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Almost everyone is a good candidate for dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, so it very rarely causes allergic reactions. This makes the treatment suitable for people who have sensitive tissues and those with minor health concerns. Before scheduling your first appointment, we ask you to attend an initial consultation.

During this meeting, we will discuss your health history to make sure that the treatment is safe for you. We will also have a look at your facial features and discuss your cosmetic concerns. That way, we can come up with a treatment plan that allows you to achieve your goals. Sometimes, we recommend several injectables to address various signs of aging like wrinkling and a loss of volume.

Rejuvenate Your Face with Dermal Fillers

JUVÉDERM fillers are great for patients who would like to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles or restore lost volume in the mid-face. They can also plump up the lips. Because the active ingredient needs some time to start working, the results don’t become apparent until one to two weeks after the treatment. However, they often last for twelve months or more.
