Everything You Need to Know About Restylane for Wrinkle Reduction

Restylane Dermal Filler scaled

Laugh lines can be a sign that you’ve spent a lot of time smiling and laughing. But when you have sagging around your eyes or jawline, or wrinkles around your mouth, you may start to feel self-conscious about your appearance.

Treatments such as facelifts or other surgery can be too invasive for some people. On the other hand, anti-aging creams and other topical treatments don’t always produce the effects that you may be looking for. The good news is that there is a non-surgical way to plump up your skin and reduce wrinkles.

Restylane products are one of the top wrinkle treatments and solutions for sagging skin. If you have been looking for a wrinkle reducer that works with your skin to give you a more youthful appearance, you may want to learn more about this type of treatment that we offer at Dundee Dermatology.

What Is Restylane?

A filler is something that is injected under your skin to reduce sagging and wrinkles and add more fullness to the face. One of the most popular fillers is Restylane because it uses hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already naturally found in our bodies.

When you start to get older, your body stops producing hyaluronic acid. Over time, this can lead to hollow cheeks, sagging under the eyes, and wrinkles around your mouth, eyes, and other areas.

Restylane products can be used in many different situations since most people are good candidates for the treatment. You are likely a good candidate for Restylane if you are over 21, are in good health, and have a realistic understanding of the benefits that this treatment can provide.

What Areas Can Restylane Treat?

Restylane products can be used in many different areas to plump and firm up the skin. Here are a few of the most common areas:

  • Smile Lines: This is the area that goes from your nose to your mouth. As you age, the smile line can become more pronounced. Restylane can plump up this area for a lifted effect.
  • Marionette Lines: Your marionette lines are the areas that go from the corners of your mouth to your jawline. Using Restylane in this area can treat drooping skin for a more youthful look.
  • Lips: As you age, your lips can become thinner or develop fine lines. This treatment can plump up your lips and reduce wrinkling.
  • Under the Eyes: If you have bags or perpetual dark circles under your eyes, Restylane can help to smooth out the area and make your face smoother and brighter.
  • Hands: Restylane Lift is FDA approved for hands. If you want to restore a youthful look to your hands, this may be a good option for you.

What Are the Benefits of Restylane Treatments?

If you are researching all of the different options that you have for minimizing wrinkles and sagging, you may want to know what sets Restylane products apart from the other choices that are on the market. Here are a few of the benefits of going with Restylane.

It Works With Your Skin

Since hyaluronic acid is already present in your body, it doesn’t exclude any candidates because of sensitivities. We’ll just need to know about any lidocaine sensitivities so we can discuss an option without lidocaine.

You’ll Get to See Results Right Away

As soon as you walk out of our office, you may start to notice results from the treatment. Those results should only increase over the next two weeks. You won’t have to wait to know if the Restylane has worked and you’ll be able to enjoy your new, plump skin without many side effects.

The Injection is Comfortable and Pain-Free

A very small needle is used to inject the filler into your face or hands. This needle is so small that most of our patients only report a little feeling of pressure at the injection site. If you’re nervous, you can talk to us about ways to make you feel more comfortable during the process.

Restylane Treatments Can Last for Months

The typical Restylane treatment can last between 6 and 12 months. Some people choose to come back for additional appointments. You can schedule anywhere from 2-4 sessions each year if you want to keep enjoying firm and smooth skin.

There Are Minimal Side Effects

After your Restylane treatment, you may experience some tenderness or itching at the injection site. You may also have some bruising and swelling. You should refrain from drinking alcohol or taking any blood thinning medications or supplements before and after the treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.

What Is the Process of Restylane Treatment?

Before you schedule a Restylane injection, you’ll consult with us to make sure this is the right treatment for you. This will help us determine treatment areas and the specific product that we will use. You can expect the process to take around an hour, although this can vary.

We will clean the area and then use a small needle to inject the Restylane gel into the desired location. Once you are done, you’ll be asked to keep heat away from the injection sight, but you can gently apply a cold compress if you have any swelling.
