Preparing for Acne Laser Treatment

Jeuveau

Acne is a common skin condition that often results in a loss of confidence among individuals as a result of its appearance. Acne laser treatment is a popular medical solution because it can help eliminate blemishes and make acne scars appear less prominent. At Dundee Dermatology, we recommend that you take certain steps prior to your acne laser treatment to ensure the best outcome. This is important because the best skin preparation produces the best possible results.

Limit Your Sun Exposure

As you generally cannot be treated when you have a tan or sunburn, it is vital to stay out of the sun for a set amount of time. This also applies to the care that follows your treatment, so make sure to use plenty of SPF protection when you cannot avoid going outdoors. Fake tan should also not be used in the weeks or months before the treatment.

Stop Smoking

To increase the effectiveness of the acne laser treatment, you may be advised to stop smoking in the weeks before your treatment. Smoking can inhibit blood circulation, which decreases your skin’s healing ability.

Don’t Use Certain Skin Care Products

For a specific amount of time before your treatment, do not use any skincare products which contain certain active ingredients. As these may be common ingredients in a number of products, be sure to closely check the ingredients of anything that you apply to your skin.

Avoid Using Products That Will Slow Down the Healing Process

There are many supplements that patients take on a daily basis to improve their general health. However, some of these supplements can actually inhibit the healing process post-acne laser treatment, so a temporary suspension of use may be recommended.

Don’t Have Another Skin Treatment

To avoid interfering with the treatment process, do not have any other skin treatments in the same area until we say it’s alright to do so. At your consultation, we can discuss more specific instructions on what you should do before and after your treatment.
